Boost Your Skincare Routine with Crystals

There are so many holistic trends happening in skincare right now, but one thing that's been pretty constant lately is the use of crystals. While crystals are known to have spiritual, mental, and emotional healing properties, many people believe they have physical healing properties. Hence why they've become so popular in the beauty world. Although there isn't much scientific evidence to support the effects of crystals on the skin, the major consensus is that crystals just simply make you feel good. So either way, you're getting some type of benefit from it. According to an article on LiveScience.com, Ancient Egyptians were using crystals for their healing properties over 6,000 years ago. Using crystals for the skin is also something that can be dated as far back to the 7th Century in China. There's a popular ancient Chinese practice called Gua Sha, which involves scraping the skin with a crystal tool to increase blood flow, reduce inflammation, and detoxify the skin.

There are many different ways to incorporate crystals into your skincare routines. Crystal-infused products are available in many beauty stores and can be applied directly to the skin. Some people even grind their crystals up and use it as an exfoliant. Some companies provide crystal grinding as a service so that you can infuse your own products. Crystal rolling and massages are currently all the rave. Crystal rollers come in many different varieties such as rose quartz, amethyst, and jade. Crystal massages are basically the same thing but without the roller. You can get both done by an expert or do it yourself at home. Crystal facials are also pretty big in the holistic community. This involves placing crystals on different points of your face and then just relaxing for 15-20 mins. There are different crystal grids you'd want to follow when it comes to doing a crystal facial so make sure you do your research. You can also get a crystal facial done by an expert if you'd prefer.

Just like different crystals may help you heal in different ways, certain crystals help with certain skincare issues. Here are some skin issues and the crystals that you could possibly benefit from adding into your skincare routine.

Detox

The best crystals for detoxifying the skin are amethyst, ruby, and emerald. Amethyst specifically combats EMF (electromagnetic fog), brings down inflammation, and soothes acne and itching. Ruby is great for nourishing ultra-dry skin, healing acne, and detoxifying the blood. Emeralds detoxify and deeply cleanses while balancing combination skin.

Acne

If you're suffering from breakouts, try some amethyst, moonstone, or ruby. As stated before, amethyst and ruby both heal acne and have detoxifying properties. Moonstone is great for tackling hormonal breakouts, especially for sensitive skin.

Soothe

If you suffer from irritation, redness, and/or inflammation you may want to reach for some amethyst, lapis, rose quartz, black tourmaline, or emerald. Amethyst and emerald have calming effects. Lapis is also known to be super calming and is great for redness and irritation. Rose quartz specifically targets redness, while black tourmaline is great for overall irritated skin. If you're suffering from a specific condition such as rosacea or eczema, aquamarine is the crystal for you.

Anti Aging

To tackle those fine lines and wrinkles, reach for some rose quartz, white tourmaline, or diamond. Not only is rose quartz great for redness but it also softens fine lines. White tourmaline revitalizes the skin and helps increase collagen production. Diamond smooths away wrinkles and gives a luminous glow. If you suffer from dark circles or puffy eyes, hematite can also be useful since it's best for tired eyes.

Radiance

To keep that summer glow all year long, grab some white tourmaline or moonstone. Moonstone helps bring out that youthful glow while white tourmaline helps keep the skin radiant. If you're a guy who's struggling to get his beard to grow full, moonstone can also help stimulate hair growth.

Environmental Toxins

To protect your skin from those harmful free radicals, try some jade, turquoise, malachite or clear quartz. Jade helps shield the skin against environmental stressors. Turquoise combats pollution while malachite combats UV damage and free radicals. Clear quartz neutralizes toxins and electromagnetic smog.

Deep Clean

Malachite, rose quartz, and emerald are the best crystals to deeply penetrate and cleanse the skin. Rose quartz helps buff away dead skin cells and impurities.

Boost Circulation

If your skin is feeling congested, the best crystals for you would be ruby, scolecite, jade, and white tourmaline. All these stones help increase blood flow and improve circulation.

Uneven Skin Tone

If you're suffering from hyper-pigmentation, pearl and sapphire are your go-to crystals. Pearls are not only detoxifying but they contain large amounts of an antioxidant called glutathione that helps brighten the skin and fade dark spots. Sapphire is said to stimulate the pituitary gland which produces melanin.
